Ursula Williams
Children With A Need
A Note from the Oikos INTL Founders:
Ursula knows poverty, has experienced addiction in her family (even losing a loved one), and lives daily with those that are suffering as they experience hunger, malnutrition, prostitution (as young as 11) and gang violence. She is right in the middle of it. And because of that, she needs a safe space for the children, their parents and the elderly to eat, learn and experience the Gospel. Ursula is what South Africans call a mother to many. We have experienced her love and generosity many times. She serves hundreds food each month and is ready to serve more than food…. With Oikos’s help, she’s developed a life-changing ministry of hope, stability and the Good News. This community is a mile from Masiphumelele another one of our target communities.
Meet Ursula
My name is Ursula Williams and I have been working as a community worker in the township of Ocean View, Cape Town since 2009. I initially started providing soup to the elderly in this small fishing village located near Cape Point, but unfortunately, it faces significant challenges such as high unemployment rates and drug abuse. In response to these issues, I began a relationship with the Murdock’s and Oikos where I learned solutions to assisting my community and I’m excited to begin this new chapter in my life and in my communities life.
THE MINISTRY: CHILDREN WITH A NEED
I founded Children With A Need, a registered non-profit organization focused on serving the elderly and children in our community. Through our soup kitchen, which operates five days a week, we provide nutritious meals to those in need, specifically children in the development stages of their life and the elderly who are more vulnerable to food insecurity, isolation and loneliness. This initiative has not only helped alleviate hunger but has also fostered a sense of community and support within Ocean View.
In addition to our soup kitchen, Children With A Need is dedicated to bringing positive change and hope to the community through various events and programs. We organize workshops, recreational activities, and educational initiatives that empower and uplift the youth, promoting a brighter future for Ocean View. This year we are adding recovery programs for both adults and youth in partnership with Oikos.
Our people have suffered too long. Will you join us in our mission to make a difference in Ocean View? Together, we can create a stronger, more vibrant community where everyone has equal opportunities and access to support.
