THE COOPERATIVE ALLIANCE
Benjamin Mumba:
Star of Hope
A Note from the Oikos INTL Founders:
Co-founder, Alan Murdock, met Benjamin Mumba while on sabbatical during the peak of the COVID epidemic while grocery shopping. A kind gentleman assisted Alan with an “unusual” food request for Africa --- Vanilla Pudding mix. During “the expedition” It was obvious this man was extremely educated working well beyond his gifting. It wouldn’t be until a few weeks later that Alan would find out how right he was. Benjamin has two bachelor’s degrees (Arts Degree in Education, Arts (Honors) in Theology and one master’s degree in theology (Missiology and Development) from Stellenbosch University in Cape Town. His emigration to Cape Town from distant Malawi was to seek answers to help his own people as, Benjamin was “stuck”. It was this fateful meeting that changed everything.
Meet Benjamin
My name is Benjamin Mumba, and I hail from the Mzimba District in the northern part of Malawi, but I am currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. By His sufficient and excellent grace, I have preached the gospel in season and out season throughout Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, and South Africa.
After teaching in secondary school and university in Malawi, God gave me a heart for poverty alleviation of my people and to try to knock down the walls that are keeping our people in bondage.
THE MINISTRY: STAR OF HOPE
Because of the lack of resources for ministries such as mine, I decided to trek down to South Africa with the aim and hope of coming out of the poverty cocoon so I could assist my people.
Fortunately, two years down the line, I met Alan and Michelle Murdock, who introduced me to OIKOS INTL. OIKOS training is superb in illuminating somebody's mind with how to come up with solutions to problems you encounter in life. My joining Oikos gave me insights and motivation to start Star of Hope organization by returning home and affecting change.
The mission of Star of Hope is to deal with my community in the following areas, namely alleviating hunger and poverty through farming (agriculture) and development projects. Every year, there is hunger in my community, and this year, the situation is dire and desperate. Development projects will address education and reforestation to repair our lost resources so new jobs are created.
CONTENDER FOR PARLIAMENT
Just prior to 2024, calls for me to contest for Parliament resurfaced. As both a Government official and an NGO leader (you have to work while in Government) I will be positioned to serve my people in meaningful and helpful ways on two main fronts should I be chosen (I’ve got a good shot).
As an educator, a preacher of gospel and community social worker, I invite you to join me these two noble causes. With your financial support, we can all become game changers in my by reducing poverty. Every donor is free to pay me a visit anytime to monitor and see how the funds are used for the projects. Therefore, transparency and accountability will be at the epicenter of funds intended for political campaigns (short term) and Star of Hope (long term), respectively. Any donor is free to make discretion on who can audit the funds of both projects. Together, we can arrest poverty in the Mzimba District in Solola Constituency and make people's likes change for the better in the long run.
Thank you all for reading my bio, and may God bless you all abundantly.
