A Man of Few Words, But With Big Hopes
Aya is a man of few words, sharing very little about his past, but giving many praises for Jesus and for Oikos. It's obvious he has big hopes and dreams for the future!
Aya has been with Oikos since March. He says it's helped him make connections with people he never thought he'd meet, and has encouraged him to step outside his comfort zone.
Aya admits it's a challenge to get him to open up, which I recognized during our talk with each other. But he says he's slowly starting to become more comfortable with it because of the warm community he's found through Oikos.
He's learning to build relationships with others, but most of all, a relationship with Christ.
Future Goals
Aya works in media for Oikos, which lends well to his preference to keep to himself. He says he can put in his earbuds and listen to music while he edits. But his future goals will require him to put his new-found communication skills into action.
Aya has a love for mathematics literacy, and a heart for teaching. His goal is to one day teach high school math. He sees this as a way to help others achieve their own goals.
Aya also has a goal to rebuild the soccer field in his township that was previously destroyed. He sees this goal as a way to show other disadvantaged youth they too can come out of a bad situation to achieve their dreams and share their stories.
Jesus is the Key
When I asked Aya what advice he had for the readers, he said, "Jesus is the key. If you're going through something and not seeing any change, have faith. Jesus will bring change in His own time."
He also credits Oikos for helping him feel loved by Jesus. The overflow of Jesus's love through the people at Oikos is what has kept Aya going and given him hope for his dreams.
